Pilot Exercise Program Offers Free IH3 Fitness Center Membership to Lake City residents

HopeHealth is continually looking for ways to improve our patients' health.  Recently, we have been focusing on increasing our patients' activity levels.  Exercise, even at low levels, can provide significant benefit to a person's health and sense of well being.  Along with quitting smoking and healthy eating, staying active is a powerful way to improve health and control diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

In that spirit, HopeHealth is planning a pilot program for our Lake City patients.  If you live in Lake City, you probably know about IH3, an innovative fitness center that has been operating there since 2009.  The center offers high-tech Technogym® equipment that is easy to learn and use.  A certified trainer meets with all new members to assess their needs and abilities and designs an individualized workout routine.  Each member is issued a fitness key which plugs into each machine and records the member's efforts.  These accomplishments can be reviewed and graphed by computers at the center.

HopeHealth would like to recruit patients in the Lake City area to participate in our exercise pilot.  We are offering a free one-year IH3 membership (a $468 value) to patients who meet the following criteria:

1) Reside in the Lake City area

2) Can commit to regularly exercising at IH3 (at least 3 times per week on average) for the next year

3) Are willing to receive their primary care from the pilot program's physician, Paul DeMarco, MD, whose office is located at the HopeHealth site at Francis Marion University.

As part of their regular medical care by Dr. DeMarco, all pilot patients' exercise achievements will be reviewed and their workout programs adjusted.  The goal will be to incorporate exercise into the patient's lifestyle to help control weight, blood pressure and blood sugar.

"It's a real privilege to be chosen as the physician for the pilot," says DeMarco.  "I'm looking forward to working closely with patients to get and keep them fit through IH3."

If you are interested in participating, please call Margaret Love, HopeHealth's Outreach Coordinator, at 843-245-2291.
